Small comforts next to my bed

I am a sickie-poo. I went to the doctor today (Thursday) and he said I have a sinus infection. An icky one. He put his arm around me and said, "Oh, you poor thing. I can tell you don't feel good."

I almost cried.

I told him that I was afraid he was going to say, "Just a cold!" and send me on my way. But he said, "Oh no, you need antibiotics and plenty of rest." Thank the dear Lord for antibiotics. I went straight to the pharmacy.

Then Mom-duties called so I also went to the grocery store, picked up Big Guy from preschool, and finally home to relieve the babysitter who was caring for Little Guy. While we transitioned, the babysitter made me a sandwich.

I want to adopt her.

I slogged through lunch, read stories, got the boys down for naps, and hurled myself into bed. Exactly one hour later, both boys were up. I put on my game face, walked into the family room, and sat down on the couch to think about what to do next. In walked Hubby. Home early with lots of other things to do, but here to help. My hero.

I love him.

I went back to bed while they played. I rejoined the group around 4 o'clock, and managed to fold some clothes. Hubby fixed dinner. I put Little Guy to bed, then wandered in to Big Guy's room to snuggle while Hubby read stories. That was really nice.

Now I'm in my own bed, feeling really grateful for all the small comforts of the day: a reassuring word from the doctor, a sandwich made just for me, a compassionate and helpful Hubby, and bedtime stories.

And of course, antibiotics and tissue.

  2. Sounds like you got what you needed - so rare for a SAHM who is sick! Hope you are feeling better. Those sinus infections are nasty business!
