Encouragement

Eager to receive my cards, I was so happy when they came.

Notes of friendship, joy, and love, just waiting for a name.
Challenged to encourage another, I took the time to read each one,
Only as I read, I suddenly felt unworthy and had the urge to run.
Unsure and undecided I thought, "Why did I do this?"
Really, who am I going to send this to, and will my good intentions be a miss?
At that moment, feeling quite discouraged, I remembered a certain friend,
Generous with her time and thoughts, and no longer just around the bend.
Ever faithful and often missed, and sometimes having a tough day,
Maybe she would appreciate hearing from me in a different way?
Even still I am tempted to call, text, or chat, but
Notes that are handwritten feel more thoughtful than that. So,
Thankful for the inspiration and this volunteer assignment, I finally write a simple note, and hope that it brings encouragement.

  3. Wonderful! The lost art of heartfelt snail mail may be revived after all if you and your generation keep thinking of such sweet ways to encourage one another! I'm encouraged and also proud of you! Love, Mom
