Lullaby

Image from Style Kid, where I found lots of stuff I want.

When Big Guy was a baby, I realized that I could not remember the words to any lullabies. Being me, I did two things: (1) Googled "lullaby words" and (2) Called my mother. Mom sent me a CD with beautiful lullabies, and Googled helped, too. I made an effort to memorize some pretty songs, but after a while, I kept going back to, "Rock a Bye, Baby."

Except, the words are awful.

So, one night, as I was rocking, and rocking, and rocking Big Guy, my sleep deprived brain came up with some new words. Here is my version of the familiar tune:

Rock a bye, Baby,
In Mama's arms,
She will hold, and squeeze you tight.
You will know,
That you are loved,
And you will sleep sweetly, all through the night.

It was an impulsive love song, and a wish to my baby that he would sleep sweetly all through the night. It didn't always work, but it made me feel better when I had to leave him crying. At least I left him with kind words, and not images of cradles falling from the sky.

I still sing it to Little Guy, every night, and my hope is that one day the boys will hear the "real words" and become very confused. Or, maybe they won't even notice the difference. Either way, I sure have enjoyed singing it. Maybe you will like it, too.

  1. This is my daughter's favorite song, and I feel weird every time I sing it because of what "happens at the end." I will have to try your version. :-)

  2. That is awesome that you changed the lyrics to suit your needs. Sing away!
