Tally Time

Time to see if I did Tuesday's To Do. . .

Of course! I had a GREAT birthday, thanks to all the calls, emails, texts, comments, postings (how many ways are there to communicate?!) from my friends and family.

Thank you.

My present to myself was exercise.

Huh? I know. Lame-o. But I'm terrible about exercising regularly. I don't like the gym, the kids keep me busy, the list of excuses is long. I like to exercise by walking and doing yoga in the privacy of my own home. I guess I'm sort of private that way. And lazy. I don't do it very often.

Birthday = reflection and desire to live longer. So, I vowed to do better. To hold myself accountable, I am writing down what I do. I got a (free!) 2010/2011 pocket calendar at Hallmark the other day, so now it is my Exercise Calendar. The rules are, I don't have to exercise everyday, but I do need to write down whatever I do. That's it. So far, this philosophy motivated me to do yoga AND sit-ups on Tuesday morning, so I would have something extra to write down.

We'll see if it works.

Meanwhile, what is your favorite form of exercise? How do you keep it up?

  1. Very proud of you! Yes, for me, writing everything down seems to make me "get real" about both exercising and eating. Soon you'll be scheduling in your exercise times in advance because you enjoy them so much. From what I hear, walking and yoga just about covers all you need... you get the weight lifting from being a mom to those little guys who aren't so little anymore!

PS - I liked your post about the 100th AWIP post coming up! Cool idea about the special coffee giveaway.

  2. Oh, I forgot to tell my favorite exercise! It's a tie between yoga and water aerobics (the really strenuous but very fun classes, like water Zumba and "advanced water fitness" at our wellness center!) I'm going to enjoy reading your friends' answers to this.

  3. Yay you for exercise, Courtney! I'm sure it didn't take you many posts on my blog to figure out that I am an official gym rat. It's my second home, and it has been for almost 20 years. I run, elliptical, stairclimb, and do weights. I try to do an hour of each, and I rarely miss a day. Sunday is my day off. I am a solo workout gal though - it's my Anne time, and I don't feel guilty for leaving Madeline in the kids' care b/c she LOVES those ladies in there and going everyday makes me a better everything to those who count on me. Some would say I am obsessed, but it's "my thing". :) My next exercise goal is to run the Disney Marathon in Jan. 2012 - can't wait to train and run it! That gives me time to recover from Baby girl #2, get her settled in this world, and me time to hit the pavement to get my legs back. :)

  4. Wow, how to follow Anne?! Whew, I got a workout just reading her comment. :) I think it's a fabulous idea to just write it all down. I actually have my own routine, but with my brother's wedding, and the class reunion, and blah, blah, blah, I'm off my game. Instead of feeling guilty about missing a day (or many!) of whatever routine it is, I should just write down what I DO do and be happy I'm doing SOMETHING! Good idea~

  5. Regular exercise is unheard of these days. Like you, I count parenting as exercise and hope to squeeze in something a little more legitimate from time to time. Right now, a nice walk in the park is my favorite. I've also discovered 12 minute Yoga for kids clips in our On Demand cable programming. I have high hopes of using those this winter!
