Cooking in the South

Friday, October 15, 2010

There are so many reasons to laugh at the fact that I just blogged on Cooking in the South.

  1. I grew up in Illinois.
  2. Did you hear that? Illinois.
  3. I can follow a recipe, but I'm not exactly a "cook."
  4. I am a member of the Junior League of Charleston, and Cooking in the South is our product website. In other words, I volunteered to write. This is not anyone requesting my culinary bloggin' skills.
  5. I am a member of the Junior League of Charleston. (repeat) Be careful what you make fun of when you are a young know-it-all. Oh, the humble turn. I was invited to join the Junior League in Richmond, by another young lawyer. That League was fantastic, and it pretty much obliterated all of my misconceptions about "who" is in the League and "what" they do. Same deal here.
  6. I love the League and am honored to be a part of it. That is no laughing matter. They make a huge difference in our community. You can check out the JLC here. If you live in a different community, I encourage you to inquire about a Junior League there. Hopefully you will have the same positive experience.
  7. May I also include a shameless plug? The featured products make great Christmas gifts. The oldest Junior League cookbook still in print, heralded by Food + Wine and Southern Living - come on! Perfect mother-in-law gift! Don't forget the "Official Children's Book of Charleston" for the little ones. . .

Finally - Bon App├ętit!
