Tuesday's To Do

Join Up.

I've been circling around the edges of this, not sure if it is something I want to do.

30-Day Giving Challenge

I feel really busy, and kind of distracted - and yet, I cannot walk away.

Maybe I need a challenge.

I'm going to link up and join the 30-Day Giving Challenge, 9 days late.

Part of this challenge is to journal about giving for 30 days. I thought it would be a good idea to list the ways that I am giving, but I'm feeling particularly conscious of these verses right now:

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:2-4

Its not that telling about the ways we give is bad - I am inspired and encouraged by the ways others give. I need others to share their ideas and motivate me. I wouldn't be thinking about giving in such a purposeful way right now if it weren't for this challenge. At the same time, I don't want to, even accidentally, seek recognition or approval for what should be a personal exercise in service. I don't want the hesitation of, "What will others think?"

So, here is what I am going to do. At the end of each post this month, I will write about giving, but I won't make a list of everything I've done. I will just tell you where I am with this challenge, and I hope you will do the same. Did I give something to someone today? Did I miss an opportunity or find too many? Is this frustrating, hard, or amazingly easy? I will feature local charities, and I will show you what others are doing. I want to push outside of the norm for me, and I will be honest.

Are you in?

Leave a comment. Tell me if you will commit to giving to others, every day, for the rest of this month. Link to your blog, or do it right here with me. Either way, we can share our journey of giving and encourage one another along the way. Sharing gifts given or gifts received is okay, because you might spark an idea in someone else, or encourage their hearts to open in a new way. I'll start:

Giving Day 9 - I took some items to Goodwill last week, but it doesn't feel like enough. I would have done that anyway. I am looking for a deeper way to give.
