Welcome, November

Don't you know how he feels?

Oh my goodness.

I don't know about you, but I am sooooo glad that Halloween is over. Every mother I saw at Halloween parties on Friday night, and Saturday night, and (hello!) trick-or-treating on Sunday night looked exhausted. And every single one said, "Is it over yet?"

Putting your child in a costume once or twice is fun. After that, the junk food overload, the blown bed times, and the sticky fingers start to haunt your life. Sweet children become sugar crazed monsters. Plastic spider rings, candy wrappers, and broken glow sticks litter the house. Pumpkins begin to turn. . .

It is time for a change, and here it is.

Sweet November.

On this first day of November, I am seeking peace and comfort. I am seeking a fresh start and crunching leaves. I am seeking rest.

I am not going to look ahead to those other holidays twinkling in the distance. I am going to center my gaze on today. As I go about the necessary parts of my day, the job, the children, the house, the everything. . . I will do my best to avoid the swirling vortex of holidays behind and holidays ahead.

I will breathe deeply and inhale this, the merciful pause of November first.

Because someone is going to hit fast forward soon. I can feel it.
