Tuesday's To Do

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

In case you haven't walked into a store, looked at a magazine cover, or perused any websites lately, January is the month we are supposed to get organized.

Out with the old!
Clean slate!
Fresh start!
Shiny containers!
Fabulous systems!

: Declutter

Oh, my. It can overwhelm me, and I'm an everything-has-a-place girl. But this year (so far) I'm in a decluttering groove thanks to Organized Simplicity, which I got for Christmas. (Thanks, Mom!)

The book is pretty, useful, and actually therapeutic. Seriously. Pair it with a cup of coffee and you've got my-house-is-going-to-look-so-great bliss. It has been perfect reading for me during this time of year. I haven't completed all of the book's suggestions yet, but I will. The method is to identify your home's purpose, your desired lifestyle, and then to approach your home room by room. So far, I've tackled the family room, all the bathrooms, and the kitchen. Hubby even cleaned out the shed. We are making progress, and it feels good.

I am also trying to declutter my brain. Less TV time, more me time. Less Facebook, more face time and more real books.

I don't expect to be done by Thursday, but I'll let you know how it is going.

Are you decluttering? Cleaning, organizing and filing? Relaxing, and preparing for the year ahead? Or just laughing because the house is going to be messy again as soon as the kids wake up from their naps? Share your thoughts.

P.S. On a totally unrelated (but maybe we'll call it housekeeping?) note, my bloggy friend, Amy, invited me to link up with her friend, Jen's Tuesday meme,

which is fantastic. Thank you. It was actually something I was meaning to do, but hadn't done yet, and then to be asked - well, that was just nice. So I'm linking up with Monday's post, and I would encourage you to click above and read some good stuff. And link up, too!

  1. I got that book for Christmas too! Of course, I have not found time to actually read it yet but I plan to soon. We are de-cluttering every room too. I love doing it! It really makes me question any purchase I am getting ready to make. Will it just end up as clutter to be given away in a year? Good luck!!

  2. I'm decluttering all over the place. My home, my heart, my mind, my body...and I hope it goes beyond Thursday, because I really want what's on the other side...a deeper relationship with the Lord.

I will have to check out that book, it sounds really good.

  4. What a perfect post for me today. Just getting to reading your blog because I was so busy decluttering today. Got Christmas put away and took out everything from those boxes we hadn't used in years, reorganized closets and boxed up clothes my son has out grown. Three boxes for Goodwill in the process. Glass of wine tonight to congratulate myself. Oh happy day!
