: Consign!

I spent some time this weekend getting ready for a consignment sale. Today is the day I'm supposed to drop off my goods. As you can see from these tags,

this is a serious sale.

I'm only consigning eleven items this season. With two boys, I keep a lot, and I've learned that only the "good stuff" sells. It's not worth it to make all those tags for piddly items. Although it is worth it to get rid of some toys that have worn out their welcome . . .

As a consignor, I get a special pass to shop early. That's the main reason I do this. I find a lot of quality clothes (especially nice church clothes), toys, and gear at great prices for my kids at this particular sale. Also, I like the idea of re-using perfectly good items. Call me frugal, green, whatever. I'm into it.

What about you? Do you consign, shop at thrift stores, or otherwise buy used? Why?

P.S. Since I've been cleaning out closets (the kids') this weekend to get ready for the sale, I couldn't be more tickled about Hot Spot #1 for Project Simplify at Simple Mom. As you know, I'm a big Tsh fan, having read and implemented her book at the turn of the year. But of course I've still got work to do! We'll see if I get to my closet this week (doubtful) but I may participate in other Hot Spots during her five week challenge. I recommend you do the same! Or at least click on one of those links . . . that was a lot of linking for me. Whew!

  1. I am a borrower/lender. I have literally 5 bins of clothes for my son right now that people have passed on to us. I am working on culling through the things that we will never wear to give to Goodwill.

On the simplicity piece, I am resurrecting an idea from Lent last year that didn't pan out. Every day in Lent organize one area of my house - closet, toy bin, bookcase, etc... Tackle the big things, like the garage, on Saturdays and rest on Sundays. Makes the task seem less daunting.

  2. I get a lot of hand-me-downs from a good friend who also has three boys. I also give a lot to Goodwill (piddly toys, play clothes, shoes) and I consign big ticket items. As far as "church" clothes, I don't mind paying good money for those because I know realistically that they will be worn by all three of my boys.

And Andrea, thanks for the fabulous Lent idea!
