Weekend Word: Prepare

Friday, March 11, 2011

{Welcome to the weekend! I've chosen a word from my Bible's concordance, and am sharing a few of the related verses. I hope you will consider theses verses over the weekend, and perhaps spend time in the Word finding others. If you don't have a Bible handy, here is a great online version. Till Monday. . .}

Today's word is inspired by the Holy Season we entered on Wednesday, Lent. Lent is a time of preparation, the 40 days before Easter. It is a time to prepare our hearts to better understand the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross on Good Friday, and the miracle of his Easter resurrection.

"See, I will send my messenger who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come," says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:1

Jesus said, "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:2-3

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. I Peter 1:13

Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction. 2 Timothy 4:2

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. I Peter 3:15

On Wednesdays, join me and others at Internet Cafe Devotions.

  1. Love this old picture. I've thought about Lent a lot already this year. I love the idea of intentional preparing for something so big.

  2. I have not thought about "preparing" for the weekend, inside of my thoughts on Lent. Hmmm.

  3. I LOVE this! What a wonderful post on preparing! We often only want to "reap" and not get a little lazy in preparing...this was fantastic! Blessings!

    Thanks for joining us!
