A Belated Birthday

Monday, April 11, 2011

So.

A few days ago I realized that I am a negligent blogger. A Work in Progress turned one on March 14th, and I completely missed it.

I missed the first birthday!

Not even a flash across my tiny brain as I put on my mom shoes. No inspired thought, nothing. Just crickets chirping and boys yelling.

To ease my guilt, and to properly celebrate, AWIP and I have discussed what my guilt offering should be - a makeover!

Although that does look really nice for me. . . but what AWIP needs is a blog designer. Someone who speaks HTML and knows what colors match. Because I don't. So, I'm currently shopping for just the right artiste for this still pouting space. Any suggestions? I want AWIP to feel nice and spiffy now that she is one whole YEAR old.

Also, I want you to feel nice and spiffy. That's why I am giving away two of my favorite books:

so that you can makeover your domestic space.

And

so that you can makeover your spiritual space.

Since this is now a sophisticated one year old blog, there are multiple ways to enter:
  1. Leave a comment telling me your favorite post from the last year.
  2. Leave another comment telling me which book you would like to win.
  3. Leave one more comment telling me what you would like to see change or improve during the blog makeover.
Everyone can enter three times - yipee!

The giveaway will be open until midnight EST Wednesday, April 13th. I will announce the winner (picked randomly, of course!) on Thursday morning so that we can have a big ole giveaway party on AWIP's baker's dozen birthday, April 14, 2011.

Good luck, and THANK YOU for hanging out here for one whole year!!

The best is yet to come :)

  1. golly, i am too new to tell you which post i liked the best, but congrats on your 1st birthday!!

Jesus Calling looks like a good read, i would be interested in that book. my suggestion for blog design would probably be either LeeLou Blogger (love her work) or Dottydotdotdesign1. Jessica at SoStylizedBAsics was offering free makeovers from the UBP'11. i enjoy playing with design, but AM NOT a professional.

  6. And I think you're blog is just right - I only hope that you get a larger readership because everyone should be reading you :)

  7. I know I am disqualified, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to A Work in Progress!

  8. Congratulations on your one-year mark! I blogged for three years before I realized people kept track of that kind of stuff, so I am a SERIOUSLY delinquent blogger, don't feel bad.

Also, I'm so exited to enter your giveaway because I've had both those books in my "to read" pile for a long time now and I'd LOVE to win either one (if I had to pick, it would be Jesus Calling).

Blog makeovers are fun. I make mine over continuously. It drives my friends nuts because they get confused and have to double check to make sure they are at the right blog, to which I say 'tough cookies.'

I think a new header and a button are all good things~ good luck! Also, (I promise this ridiculously overlong comment is almost over) thanks for visiting my blog today and for following. It sounds like we have a lot in common and I look forward to knowing you better!

  10. Hi Courtney,

Thank you for visiting my blog this week, it's so nice to meet you! I love, love, love Sarah Young's books. But I've never read the other, Organized Simplicity, and it looks intriguing AND gorgeous!

I'm about to have my blog re-designed, as well. Time for some changes. I wish you all the best as you make changes here.

  13. Finally, I like your blog a lot. You know when I redesigned my blog, I used the advanced settings in blogger template and made my header at photobucket.com. You might play with these settings some, if you haven't already.

  14. Happy Birthday AWIP! I really like the Works for Me Wednesday posts, and I don't think I could choose one post that was my favorite. I enjoy reading this blog!

  16. What an accomplishment! Happy birthday AWIP! My favorite post was on 1/31/11 "Turning around." That one really hit home. No matter how far we are 'into' something, we always have the option to turn around or steer back on track.

  18. What to change? Perhaps adding a backgroud or some pops of color? I kinda like the organized simplicity of your blog. (I'm terrible, I know!) There are some blogs that are hard to navigate when you are pressed for time. I like that I can cut straight to the meat and potatoes and leave feeling uplifted, gratified, thoughtful, etc.

  19. Most recently I enjoyed your post about discipline; did not realize how difficult that is, especially sticking with it. Long term, most rewarding experience has been reading One Thousand Gifts. I would love to win Jesus Calling. Have enjoyed reading your blog!

  20. Haven't been a reader very long, but I would say my favorite post is the one called "Honest." I love that you shared that posting had been a struggle. I love that you are a truth teller.

  23. For the blog makeover - I don't know!! But maybe put the labels higher on the side bar with a search feature above or below them? That way followers can come back and easily find their favorite topics? I agree with the one above who said they liked the simplicity of your blog...I love simple blogs and I prefer not to have music because the music feature usually messes with my computer...

  24. The book's a hard one. But Jesus Calling looks so familiar I feel like I've either read it or have it tucked securely in my shelves. The Organized Simplicity looks delightful.

  25. I haven't been reading your blog for the whole year -- although I'm ever so thankful I found you! A Post about Words (I think that's the title) about the careless things we say was one of my favs.

  26. I am sorry to be late commenting...I had a gazillion errands yesterday but wishing you a HAPPY HAPPY Birthday!
I have used Design Girl before and she is wonderful. My daughter does most all of my stuff so I am of no help:) Can't wait to see the new stuff though;)
