Unpacked with Joy

Thursday, April 28, 2011

I have unpacked all the clothes, and the washing machine is humming. Piles remain in the living room, though, as the books, picture frames and get-it-out-of-my-house-stuff that my mom passed along are still looking for a home.

So, Tuesday's To Do is only half-way done. One day, soon. . .

I enjoyed reading about your Easter memories and the memories we all hope our children will unpack one day. As I was looking through pictures from my children's recent Spring Break, I thought about the fun memories we made. Our adventures were simple and joyful.

About halfway through the photos, I realized that I had quite a few of the back of their heads - my frequent viewpoint. That gave me an inspirational starting point for this week's Faith Barista Jam, a photo journal about joy. My children bring me joy, especially when I get to watch them enjoying life and each other. I want to share about them in this space, but I am also sensitive to their privacy. So, the "back of the head" shots inspired me to get creative later in the week and see if I could document their activities without showing their faces.

Here goes!

A Spring Break Photo Journal - Boys Enjoy

Picnic by the water - see the sailboat between their heads?

Stingrays at the aquarium - I love Little Guy on his tiptoes.

Exploring the creek in my parents' yard - boyhood, defined.

Ice cream at the Farmer's Market - sharing!

Coloring at home - diggers, fire trucks and police cars, of course.

Back to preschool, with a repair truck thrown in as a bonus.

Capturing these photos was a great exercise for me. It helped me tune in to the moment and (what do you know?) find more joy.

  11. Love your photo journal. It's really all about people, isn't it? The joy is in our family & friends, not in our things. But we already knew that. :)

  12. Courtney, I LOVE your back of the head theme. Isn't it our greatest joys as moms to get front row seats. It was very creative and filled me with joy thinking about that. Your boys are adorable. Are they around my boys' ages: 2 and 5? Thank you for sharing these.
