Weekend Word: Wedding

Friday, April 29, 2011

{Welcome to the weekend! I've chosen a word from my Bible's concordance, and am sharing a few of the related verses. I hope you will consider theses verses over the weekend, and perhaps spend time in the Word finding others. If you don't have a Bible handy, here is a great online version. Till Monday. . .}

Wedding

I got up extra early this morning, because I still believe in fairy tales . . .

Does a young woman forget her jewelry, a bride her wedding ornaments? Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number. Jeremiah 2:32

Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. Luke 12:35-36

When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. Luke 14:8

Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear. Revelation 19:7-8

But I live in the real world, in the South, where many dreams were ripped to shreds by tornadoes this week. My jaw dropped as I watched the coverage, and as much as I have looked forward to and will enjoy today's royal wedding, I cannot let the day go at just that.

Meanwhile, areas along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers are flooding. Cairo, Illinois, where I grew up, is literally treading water.

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble . . . he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted. Psalm 9:9, 12

Please pray for folks across the South.

    You're so right, Court! Thanks for (always, in fact) keeping me focused.

  2. I have been praying and appreciate the reminder to keep praying! For the victims of the floods and tornadoes, for this young couple as they set a positive example for a nation, and for our world - to fully rely on God! Thank you for a lovely reminder for Word-Filled Wednesday.

    Thank you for the reminder. The pictures and new reports break my heart and these have been in my prayers daily. May they cling and hold fast to the Lord their refuge.
