Noises In My House

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Top ten noises you might hear around my house today:

(1) These things. Still a hit after nearly four years.

(2) Bare feet chasing, pounding the hardwood floors in a short-leg rhythm.

(3) Cartoon voices calling, and little boys responding, "Wight dere!"

(4) Squeals of delight.

(5) Exclamations of frustration.

(6) Wooden trains crashing.

(7) Plastic tires whirring, whirring, whirring.

(8) Dishwasher purring, washing machine humming.

(9) Me reading aloud, with forced enthusiasm.

(10) Small boys singing loudly, with little regard for proper lyrics.

What could we hear at your house today?

  1. How 'bout little voices calling out around your house, "Mama!"  or "Mommy!" or "Mother!"- ?  I think I hear that a lot when I'm there :)  You don't hear that anymore at our house. (:

  4. I had to laugh at the "forced enthusiasm".  Goodness, I have to do that all the time.  One thing I learned as a (former) teacher is that "enthusiasm is contagious" and if that's true, it's also true that a lack of enthusiasm is also contagious.  I would rather have my kids love it, but after the 10 millionth time through the same stinkin book...it's hard!

  5. Seeing that my children are all working this summer....silence.  After years of cacophony....silence.

  7. So I thought about that all day today - and (tried to) treasure each time they called, "Mama!"  Thanks for that :)

  9. I think our houses sound similar--especially the washing machine and dish washer in the background! Today there was a lot of, "Go to your room!" unfortunately, but normally there are more happy sounds, too. :)

  10. There were a couple of those at our house today, too!  Especially after 4pm . . . something happens at that time and it kind of goes downhill after that.  Until bedtime :)
