WFMW: Old Electric Skillet

It is Works for Me Wednesday, and do you know what works for me?

That good ole electric skillet. We use it at least 3-4 times a week for pancakes, bacon, quesadillas, stir fry . . . whatever needs a large non-stick surface with the possibility of a lid. It may be the most regularly used appliance in our kitchen. It is definitely the most faithful.

My mom gave it to me at least 10 years ago when she was cleaning out her kitchen. The thing has got to be 20 years old, or more.

A handle is broken, it doesn't look too pretty (I promise it is clean), but it works like a charm.

And it works for me.

Do you have a less-than-perfect, but faithful, kitchen appliance?

  1. we have an 'old faithful' george foreman grill. :)  it's not as old as your skillet - but it was a wedding gift from 2000!

i remember quite vividly cooking on a skillet like yours.  my mother began her preschool when i was around 4 years old and since we were sharing our living space with the school area we were not able to have a traditional stove (injury risk) so we got creative using appliances like the traditional microwave, as well as a hot plate, skillet, and toaster oven (that could all be stored away during school hours).

  2. I read your email aloud to my hubby as it brought back a wonderful memory. For the first month of our marriage we lived in one room apartment - no kitchen, washed dishes in the bathtub and could open the refrigerator from the single bed we slept in.  BUT we cooked every night in a wonderful electric skillet.  It died about 5 years ago but I replace it not never replaced the memories of that first month we still laugh about.  Thanks for making my evening special!!
