Working

I haven't forgotten about Colossians 3:23, or how that verse stalked me for a few weeks. I wrote it down, thought about it, and wondered, "What is it, Lord, that I am supposed to be working at with all my heart?"

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men . . . Colossians 3:23

The answer that seems to be coming through loud and clear is this: Just be a good mother.

That's it. Work hard at that.

Later, I came across a verse in Psalms that brought full circle this work of tying shoes, combing hair, cooking supper, folding clothes, and drying tears.

May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us - yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

Establish the work of our hands . . .

  4. Thank you, I constantly need reminding that it is ok that my job is now "mom" not "office worker" or something else in the outside world.  It can be hard to think of motherhood as our job but that is what we need to do.  Thank you for the reminder to work hard at this job of ours!!

  6. And it's so amazing that He establishes the work of our hands, isn't it? Yes, on motherhood. It is truly one of the greatest blessings.

  7. God's given you the best job of all! So glad that you do it "with all your heart." And I'll pray, along with you that your work is established--as I'm sure it is! Beautiful thoughts here. And you cracked me up with being "stalked" by a verse! But that's how it feels sometimes! Too funny! Thanks for sharing!

  9. Thank you for writing this post. So often I ask Lord, what am I suppose to be doing? With five children I should know the answer to that, thank you for writing it out.

  10. A good mother leaves lots of marks that the child will recall during the tough times of his life. It is a good work.
