Fess Up Friday

Friday, January 13, 2012

Welcome to a new project here.

My New Year's resolution is to exercise three times a week. I am terrible about exercising regularly. I say that I don't have time, I don't want to spend money on a gym, or I can't define "regularly." I get bored easily, and I fall off the wagon over and over and over again.

So this year, after reading Tsh's (in)courage post called, How to Make New Year's Resolutions Stick, I decided to take some of her advice and insert some accountability.

Maybe you also need a place to check in or 'fess up?

We can do that here, on the second Friday of each month. I will confess how I'm doing on regular exercise, and you can share in the comments how you are doing on your goal. I promise to be honest. Will you encourage me if I fall off the wagon again? I'll do the same for you!

So, here goes:

Week of January 1st
Class at Pure Barre on Tuesday
Yoga DVD on Wednesday
(I know! I didn't make it to three on the first week - argh. Baby steps . . . )

Week of January 8th
Walk with a friend on Monday
Class at Pure Barre on Tuesday
Yoga DVD on Thursday

Care to share your New Year's resolution or goal in the comments? Even if you don't want to do a full-on public confessional here, I'm hoping that Fess Up Friday will at least remind you to think about your goal and assess how you are doing. Did you drink 5 glasses of water a day, find ways to praise your children, read your Bible, or go on a date with your husband? Whatever your goal(s), Fess Up Friday can be a place to check in, encourage, or just be honest about what works. I know I need the accountability, and I hope you will come along for the ride.

  1. I have been resolving to exercise more and I finally found something that I like so it makes it easier to do.  Have you tried Zumba?  You would love it!  Brings back all of those dance team memories!!!

  2. My word of the year is CREATE as in art, health, time etc...  One thing that is helping me stay focused is my Pinterest board for 2012 resolutions. I will try to stop by next month and share what I have created!

  3. I am a Zumba fan too!  The most fun I can have doing the thing I dread most - exercise.

  4. I haven't totally formulated any resolutions so maybe I will try to get them nailed down and then share with you! I am working out 3 times a week with my neighbor which has worked out so great because of the natural accountability from going together. We do a gym but two of our 3 mornings we do a routine led by two other woman that helps it not get boring!

  6. Misty - that would be great. I have a Pinterest account but I never "pin" anything. I just haven't gotten into it, but I need to. Would love to see your inspiration.

  7. Megan - You are so smart to be working out with a friend. That helps tremendously! I definitely enjoy classes the best. A set time helps me get there and instructors keep things from getting boring.

  8. Ok, so I think I have one thing nailed down for a resolution. I want to really limit the amount of time I am on the computer when the children are awake. My goal is to keep my computer time to times that they are sleeping - in the morning, nap time or at night after they've gone to bed. I am not making it a steadfast rule but a goal for sure and it will help to share with you how I'm doing!

  9. Megan! I love this idea. In fact, I've aspired to it on many occasions . . . but then I forget! So thank you for mentioning it here. Knowing that you are working on it will make me more aware of how much time I'm spending on the computer while my kids are vying for my attention.

  10. Courtney,
I love this idea. Keeping a goal is so much more attainable when there is accountability. My biggest resolution is to be organized. I am not very good at this. And I have to say, I've been doing a good job and so proud of myself. Its the little things...like putting coats away when we walk in the door to throwing away junk mail immediately or finding a good place for the kids arts & craft items to go...and, I just paid my bills that had to have a check written which I am terrible at doing. So yeah! Kudos to you for exercising!
