A Little Reflection

"If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers. " E.W. Howe

I found that quote two years ago, and wrote about it when I was in a slightly different place. This week, my oldest goes to Kindergarten, and, this time, I'm not ready to see him go. He's ready - he's excited! I'm excited for him, but that stressed out/motherhood-is-exasperating feeling has waned.
It's not for lack of cray-cray around here. We still have meltdowns about nothing in particular, tears about who goes first, and freak-outs about what toys go where . . .
but it doesn't feel so dog gone overwhelming anymore.
Maybe it is because my kids are a bit older.
Maybe it is because I am, too.
Mostly, it is because of this blog. I've enjoyed good online therapy here. I started A Work in Progress in an effort to find my happy place in stay-at-home motherhood. I needed to come near to God, and figure out how to be a more (pardon the exceptionally overused word) intentional mom. I needed to do a better job of embracing the good in every moment, every day. The approach of this new school year has made me realize that is happening
A recent good moment.
Yay! Thank you for being a part of that for me. Thank you for reading, commenting, and sharing. I hope you've experienced some of the same growth. If you haven't, if this is an in-the-trenches season for you, fear not. There is hope. There is progress. We are all a work in progress.
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Those "good works" might be your children, your home, your workplace, the spaces around you right now. They could be across the globe. The point is, the good works are out there, waiting for you. Think about that.

I know my work isn't done. There is more to learn, more to experience. Challenges and triumphs wait. For now, though, it is simply good to pause, right here in this moment, and enjoy it.

How are you feeling as this new school season approaches?

  1. I can relate to you on this! I was thinking similar thoughts today as I enjoyed taking the boys for a bike ride. However I am expecting our third in January so I know I will go through another transition time that will bring change and challenges but I know in a few years I will once again be in this place. :)

Yes, it all takes on a different perspective, doesn't it, with time and (everybody's) growth, and God's working on all those works in progress. And I agree, blogging can be good therapy! :)
Love that pic of the boys with the binoculars!
