31 Days of Quality Time :: Day 10, Silent Beauty

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

{This post is part of a series. To read from the beginning, click here.}
Here is a quote I tabbed in my 18 year old daily flip calendar, before I really knew where I was going with this whole 31 Days thing:
The serene, silent beauty of a holy life is the most powerful influence in the world, next to the might of the Spirit of God. Blaise Pascal
Blaise Pascal was a French mathematician, scientist and Christian philosopher who lived in the 1600s. I wonder what he had in mind when he thought about, "the serene, silent beauty of a holy life" and if it could fit in my 2012 world? I wonder who I influence? My first thought is my children. I wonder if they ever see me serene and silent?

Not often. Or at least, not often enough.

The rest of the September 16th page reads:
Your beauty . . . should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4
The beauty of silence. It is something.

P.S. Completely unrelated but important if you live in the Charleston, SC area:
Do you know a child in our tri-county area who deserves a community service award? Nominate them by clicking on the link, below. The Wonderific Community Service Award is a new part of Charleston Philanthropy Week and nominations are due by Sunday, October 14th. I just learned about this because I was contacted to do some press (what??)

for the upcoming release of the movie, Little Red Wagon, which highlights the true story of a Florida boy who advocates for homeless children. Apparently the finalists for this award will be invited to the red-carpet style premier of the movie at Regal Palmetto Grande in Towne Center on Friday, October 19th. I'll be sharing more about the movie later, but for now - get your nominations in and spread the word!
