Earth Day Follow Up

Monday, April 22, 2013

It's easy to appreciate the beauty of the earth around here.
It's been a while since I've written about "being green." I haven't developed any new habits lately; I've been too busy trying to maintain my changes. Let's see how I've been doing:

(1) Consignment Shopping - I'm a reluctant, frugal shopper. I have to be in the right mood, and then, it's like the day cannot end until I find new throw pillows for my couch. I always start in a consignment shop. Really. Because you can find some really great stuff! Or not. And then that justifies my love/hate relationship with shopping.
(2) Cloth Napkins - Still going strong. I haven't bought paper napkins in years. Well, except for in my sons' lunch boxes. I suppose I could send them to school with cloth napkins, but I think I already embarrass them enough. Plus, Big Guy's school is so green, they've got about 8 trash cans in the lunch room: recycling (various forms), composting, and last but not least, plain old trash. We're good.
(3) Baking Soda - Over it. To be honest, I like bleach in the toilets. It smells clean and boys + toilets = gross. But I have switched to a vinegar + water mixture for my kitchen countertops. Does that count? I also use a super-duper microfiber cloth that supposedly picks up everything with just water, but I'm still suspicious. If it isn't already obvious, I'm struggling in the home-cleaners department. I don't want toxic stuff in my house, but I want it to be clean - as in sterile and germ-free.
(4) Dryer Balls - Those little pink ones are still going strong, and two blue ones have joined them. They work!

I'm feeling guilt over my use of K-cups, but as a household we still recycle more than we throw away. That counts for something, right?

I'm light green. I know.

What about you? What shade of green are you?
