The Grapes are Coming

Thursday, September 5, 2013

We spent some time among these beauties last weekend.
Jim's been busy picking. The boys and I helped with the washing and sorting. The muscadines soaked in buckets of ice water for a while, then we spread them out on towels in the sun. We removed the stems and separated the leaves. It was hot, but satisfying work, especially when I got to dip my hands back in the ice water to get more grapes.
I learned to look for spot mold, which is basically a little black dot. Those grapes got tossed aside and the rest went into ziploc bags for some time in the freezer.
Next up, grape stomping!
