VLOG: Siblings and The "Same" Family

Monday, September 9, 2013

I'm taking Jen's invitation to "come as you are" quite literally. I filmed this in one take, on Sunday night when the kids were finally in bed. No makeup on a cleaning house and bike ride day.

Real.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Does birth order matter? Are siblings part of the "same" family?

  1. Thanks! I love this idea. As an only child, I have found it very difficult to navigate these sibling issues/rivalries. I just don't understand why the oldest can't just be nicer to the youngest and why the youngest has to go everything the oldest is doing! It is hard to parent when you can't understand either perspective! I know with it being 4 years and 3 months between my boys, my oldest definitely was aware when his brother came into the picture and I think he liked being the center of attention! This is great food for thought. I will have to keep it in mind when the next sibling issue comes up and try to see it from both perspectives!!!

    1. Hi Jayda - I'm glad this resonates. As we've discussed before, I think having children of the same sex creates a lot more sibling rivalry that one of each (the way I grew up) so I have to go outside of my comfort zone to try and understand my boys, too!

  2. I never thought about it this way at all -- what an interesting perspective. You know, since my kids are so close in age, I've kind of treated them like a team. Just now am I realizing I need to be really intentional about helping them develop as individuals. It's been really great because I think it's helped their relationship so much with each other -- starting to choose to spend time with each other instead of just being forced to do so.

Love that you are real on this vlog. You look beautiful!
