It's All Around You, and It Matters

Friday, November 22, 2013

If I've learned anything this week, it's don't doubt the importance of the little things you are doing in your life right now to love people and glorify God. When I stop the guilt and comparisons, the "if only I could" talk, or the "it's just all too much" exhaustion, and simply open my eyes, it's there.

I sat in a car and prayed with two women. It changed my outlook on the entire day, maybe more than that. Where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:20

I listened to a friend cry on the phone. Somehow I knew what to say. Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3

I found time to have substantive conversations, time I didn't know I had. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2

I stumbled and faltered, of course. Learned these lessons, then forgot them again. But always, always there is another little thing. An opportunity to speak to someone new, a dig-a-little-deeper smile, a moment for a deep breath, an ever so slight shift in attitude. . .

This weekend, let's commit ourselves to simply loving who we encounter. Let's talk to God, and tell him we are willing to do his work. We might be surprised at how the work is suddenly right there all around us. In the laundry room, on the soccer field, and in the parking lot. And it matters.
