Second Star to the Right - Review and Giveaway!

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

In the days surrounding Thanksgiving, my mind was in England, the land of our colonial oppressors. I was craving tea, foggy weather, and Neverland. It was not right. But then again, it was.

Second Star to the Right is a whimsical tale, the perfect distraction for this busy time of year. Faye, a single mother of two, moves to London in hopes of a fresh start. She is tired and stressed out, and so are her kids. Enter the intriguing upstairs neighbor, who believes she is Peter Pan's Wendy, and the dashing downstairs neighbor who is charming, but doesn't want to grow up. I encourage you to watch the trailer for it, here

The ensuing romance is predictable, but the Peter Pan-infused twists and turns of the story are not. I found myself thinking, "Okay, I know what's going to happen . . . (read, read, read) . . . wait . . . (read, read, read) . . . No . . . really??" more than once. Mary Alice Monroe definitely did her research on J.M. Barrie's classic fairy tale, and the way she incorporated it into this modern-day romance is entertaining. The emphasis on "magic" and "just believe" left me feeling a bit empty, but I'm a God girl. I'm always like, "Yes, but who is the author of this magic? What do you believe in?" - probably annoying when that's not the point, but I feel the need to say it just the same.

Still, if I had a copy of this book to give you to borrow, I would. It captured my imagination and I rushed back to it every evening.

How about this? I've got an ebook to giveaway. It could be the perfect holiday gift to yourself. In fact, I think you should go for it. To enter to win, please leave a comment below sharing your favorite character from Peter Pan. That's it. Easy peasy.

This giveaway is open until Sunday, December 8th at midnight, EST. Winner will be announced on Monday morning. Enjoy!

(Just so you know, Mary Alice Monroe is local, and her assistant is my friend. She asked for my review, and provided this ebook for me to share with you. I have not been compensated in any way. All opinions are my unedited own. Just so you know.)
