The Unique Bliss

Monday, January 6, 2014

I heard him coming down the hall. Tap, tap, tap-tap-tap-tap-tap. The footsteps grew faster and louder as he approached. I turned so that I could face him when he entered.

"Hi, buddy."

"Mama," he whispered.

He catapulted over me and landed in the center of our bed. His elbow caught me on the way. Uff . . .

"Dada!"

Then a knee to Dad's stomach as he made himself comfortable.

The creak of another bed. More footsteps. More knees and elbows, less room. Stinky breath, goofy giggles, snuggles.

The best part of Christmas.

When the alarm goes off this morning, and we all start zooming off in different directions to school and work . . . the unique bliss of a warm family bed . . . that is what I'm going to remember, and miss.
